Summer Reading

I am extremely proud of my students this year. Please keep your child reading throughout this summer (Raz-kids, trips to the library, Book Box reading). I will reassess your child in the fall to determine any reading support needs for second grade.

♥ Don’t forget… our Georgetown School Library will be open this summer on Tuesdays (10:00-12:00 am) during June and July. Students may check out 2 library books and 2 WEB books each week!!!!

Have a wonderful summer!

Happy Summer!

Students receiving reading support this year have made great progress. To maintain important skills, please make sure that your child continues to read throughout the summer. Your family can also visit school on Tuesdays, 10:00-12:00, to check out books from our library. We will have a special WEB collection for students PreK-1st grade. I will reassess your child in the fall to determine any reading support needs for second grade. Have a wonderful summer!

School Library Open This Summer!

This summer, our school library will be open for students to check out books. On Tuesdays, 10:00-12:00, students can stop by school to check out books and visit with their favorite teachers. Research has shown that students who choose to read throughout the summer are more successful readers. Help to establish healthy reading habits and mark this on your calendars. Looking forward to seeing all of you there!

BookaPalooza Party

On June 4 at 1:00, there will be a BookaPalooza Party at the Barnes & Noble store in the Rivertown Mall. This kicks-off their summer reading program, which includes an easy way to earn a free book. Kids in grades 1-6 can pick up a summer reading journal, try out the NOOK, and do other fun reading activities. Mark the date to get started on your summer reading!

Service Project to Help Readers

As part of a service and recycling project at Georgetown, Miss VanArkel’s & Mrs. McDonald’s classes have decided to have a pop can drive to benefit readers.

The Third Graders would like to have an ongoing school wide pop can drive to collect money to buy books. We would then make book baggies for children at Georgetown (readers that struggle either with interest, skills or financially) to read over the summer. We would also like to donate our gently used books that we have “grown out of” to the younger grades. During this project we will be gathering data, making wish lists and in the end purchasing books so please send in your empty cans to either Miss VanArkel or Mrs. McDonald’s classroom.
