Secrets for Raising a Reader

Ever since I discovered the wonderful book, Knufflebunny, I became a fan of the talented author and illustrator, Mo Willems. In this interview with Scholastic, he describes how he and his wife encouraged his daughter, Trixie, to love books. He shares handy tips such as, “Be ridiculous when you read together. Make loud noises and jump around. If your child sees that you’re enjoying the book, she will think reading is cool. If you’re rolling your eyes, your child will smell that.”

The next time you are reading with your child, remember Mo Willems, and be prepared to get a little ridiculous.

Mo Willems’ latest book, Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs.
